STAMFORD, Conn. — A man accused of groping a woman in a convenience store Tuesday was arrested, Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said.

According to Conklin, a 32-year-old woman entered the store looking for an energy drink and the clerk led her into the back where the drinks are kept. He is accused of groping and grabbing her “very aggressively.”

She tried to fight him off, but he got her in a bear hug, and continued touching her, before she was able to break away, Conklin said.

In addition to the victim identifying her attacker, the security footage from the store showed the incident and the suspect admitted what he had done to police, Conklin said.

The woman, a flight attendant for a Chilean airline, was staying in a Stamford hotel on a stopover, he said.

The suspect, Mohammed Sayed, 20, of Aberdeen Street in Stamford is a Bangledesh native staying here on a green card, Conklin said. He is expected to be charged with third-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint, and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 29, he said.

Police will be informing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the incident, he said.
