The shooting occurred in the area of Smith Street and Mill River Street just after 10 p.m. Thursday, said police Capt. Richard Conklin.

"He was shot three times. He was shot in the left cheek, and it exited through his neck, and he was shot twice in his left arm," Conklin said. "He is not cooperating with the investigation."

The teen was transported to Stamford Hospital and then to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where Conklin said he is in stable condition with the non-life-threatening injuries.

The teen was walking by himself when he was shot, police said. Witnesses said a dark-colored vehicle was seen speeding from the area, Conklin said.

Officers believe the shooting was not related to a shooting early Wednesday when a 21-year-old man was ambushed as he returned to his residence, police said. That man is recovering, Conklin said.

Officers tied that shooting to a series of back-and-forth shootings between two feuding West Side groups, he said.

"We don't think so. We believe they could be separate," he said about the pair of shootings that occurred less than 48 hours apart.
