The 32-year-old woman took a taxicab to pick up her 4-year-old and left her 8-year-old in her 80 Lafayette apartment, police said. When she returned home with her younger child, she discovered the older child was gone and called police.

Officers picked up the 8-year-old walking on Hillandale Avenue, police said. When officers returned the child to the home, the woman said that she had left the child and that an upstairs neighbor was keeping an eye on the child, police said.

However, the neighbor said no such conversation had taken place with the mother, police said. Police than issued a ticket to the mother for interfering with police.
