Stamford Mom Charged After Forgetting Toddler During Party

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford mother, who police say was inebriated, was charged after she forgot about her 2-year-old daughter after a late night party at Cove Island Park on Tuesday, police said.

Marisol Torres, 26, of 87 Lindale St., was charged with risk of injury to a child. The child was found unharmed at a friend's home, police said.

Torres, along with male and female housemates, went to Cove Island Park about 6 p.m. Tuesday, police said. At about 9:30 p.m., a woman at the party took the child back to her Lafayette Street home while the mother continued to party, police said.

However, there was a miscommunication about the baby's whereabouts, police said. When the mother arrived home at 1 a.m., she realized she didn't know where the baby was and police were hurriedly called, police said.

However, a police investigation soon revealed that the child was safe at the friend's home. Police arrested the woman at 2:15 a.m.

Bond was set at $25,000. The woman is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on June 24.

The Department of Children and Families will conduct a follow-up investigation, police said. The child is now in the care of the family friend after the mother's arrest, police said.
