STAMFORD, Conn. Police are investigating an illegal gambling ring in Stamford after a city resident hoped to gain the departments help in receiving $22,000 in winnings he claimed he had, police said.
The Stamford man called police asking them to meet him at one of the locations where money was owed to him from an illegal numbers game, police said. The man showed police a stamped receipt showing he had won, but the people running the game wouldnt pay him, police said.
The man gave police several locations throughout Stamford where illegal numbers games were going on, and they took his receipts as evidence, police said. The resident initially called the police Monday night.
No arrests have been made, police said.
