Michal Odachowski, 39, of 753 Hope St., was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to insure a motor vehicle and speeding.

It was in the hospital that Odachowski became belligerent, requiring officers to restrain him, said Sgt. William Brevard, about the man's reaction to the request for the urine sample. The four officers suffered minor injuries, Brevard said.

He was traveling west on Vine Road when his vehicle left the road at about 12:50 a.m. Tuesday and struck a tree near the intersection with Pepper Ridge Road, police said.

Odachowski was taken out of his blue Ford pickup truck by firefighters and EMS, police said. He declined to be transported to the hospital, but he later changed his mind when officers asked him to do field sobriety tests, police said.

The extent of the injuries to Odachowski and his passenger weren't known by police. The identity of the passenger was not released by police.
