STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 25-year-old Stamford man suffered injuries to his leg and hip after he was shot twice late Friday on the city's West Side, police said.

Three to four gunshots were reported at about 9:25 p.m. Friday in the area of 41 Orchard St., police said. Investigating officers found no sign of a shooting, police said.

But about 15 minutes later, a man arrived at Stamford Hospital with two gunshot wounds to the left hip and right calf, police said.

The victim told officers he was walking on Orchard Street when he was shot by an unknown person, police said. A witness said three to four shots were fired from a gray minivan, which fled backward up Orchard St after the shooting, police said.

Officers canvassed the area and found several shell casings in the area of 29 Orchard St., police said.

The shooting victim is expected to survive his injuries.

Stamford Police are asking anyone who has information on the shooting to call the Detective Bureau at 203-977-4417.
