STAMFORD, Conn. — Police have re-arrested a Stamford man suspected of stabbing a Bronx teenager in July 2011, Capt. Richard Conklin of Stamford police said.
Rayon Hines, 34, turned himself in to police Saturday morning on a first-degree manslaughter charge; he was released after posting a $75,000 bond, Conklin said.
Hines originally was charged several days after the incident, however a number of witnesses in the case were unable to be found, and the prosecutor chose not to pursue the case, Conklin said. Stamford police then re-investigated to find the witnesses, he said.
“We got very active, put on the full-court press,” Conklin said explaining several of the witnesses frequently travel back and forth from the Bronx to the Caribbean island of Jamaica.
According to Conklin, Hines and the victim, Romario Marchant, 16, of the Bronx had a disagreement during a soccer game, which led to the suspect fatally stabbing the victim in the chest July 18, 2011 at Lione Park.
