Stamford Man Pleaded Guilty To Racketeering

STAMFORD, Conn. —  A Stamford man pleaded guilty this week to racketeering charges from his involvement in a gambling ring in the city.

Dean DePreta, 45, pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, in U.S. District Court in Hartford, a release from the U.S. Attorney’s office said. He is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 28, and faces up to 20 years, and has also agreed to forfeit $300,000, the release said.

DePreta has been detained since he and about 20 others were arrested in a bust of the gambling ring in June of 2013, the release said.

John Liquori, 43, of North Haven, who was also arrested as a part of the bust, was sentenced to 18 months in jail followed by three years of supervised release, and had to forfeit $60,000 on Wednesday, the release said. He pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy in March of this year, the release said.
