The Stamford Advocate reported that Aziz El Hattab had been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child after his daughter's friend reported that he had groped her in July 2016. The girl testified that El Hattab came into a room where she was sleeping with his daughter and son and grabbed her breasts, according to the Stamford Advocate.

El Hattab and his wife both testified in his defense, and El Hattab's attorney questioned the girl's recollections and credibility during the trial, according to the Stamford Advocate. The attorney later told the Stamford Advocate that prosecutors failed to offer any corroboration of the girl's claims.
