STAMFORD, Conn. A 22-year-old Stamford man who thought his .45 caliber pistol was unloaded accidentally shot and killed himself Thursday night, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.
Marcus Dixon removed the magazine from his semi-automatic and thought the chamber was empty when it went off, Hohn said. The bullet hit Dixon in the head and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Hohn said.
Its just a tragic accident, he said, adding that Dixon was with friends at the time and did not appear to be suicidal.
The incident took place around 7 p.m. at 875 Stillwater Ave. in Stamford, he said.
Dixon had permits for the gun, Hohn said.
