STAMFORD, Conn. -- A robbery suspect with an apparent hankering for a particular brand of smoke has been arrested in Stamford, according to a report by the Stamford Advocate.
Thomas Bartlett was picked up in January by police investigating the armed robbery of a store on Hope Street, where the suspect had demanded Newport cigarettes, the Stamford Advocate reported.
Because they were looking into several other robberies and burglaries where Newports were also taken, they were able to link the 20-year-old suspect to those as well, the Stamford Advocate reported.
Bartlett was also charged with the armed robberies of a Subway shop on Shippan Avenue and a deli on Atlantic Avenue, as well as with the burglary of a gas station on Hope Street, the Stamford Advocate story said.
When Bartlett was arrested, police said, he had cartons of the smokes and a fake gun, the Stamford Advocate story said.
