STAMFORD, Conn. -- If you don't have a license it's probably best not to speed - and not carry 59 grams of marijuana.

Richard Salinas, 19, of 40 Mulberry Street, Stamford, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, driving without a license and speeding.

Stamford Police Officer Bryan Cooper saw a vehicle speeding at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and pulled it over at Cold Spring Road and Stillwater Avenue, Sgt. Kelly Connelly said. When Cooper walked up to the car he talked to Salinas and asked if he had any marijuana because Cooper detected its odor, Connelly said. Salinas and his passenger both denied they had any marijuana.

During a search of the vehicle as it was being prepared to be towed, Cooper discovered a baggie containing 59 grams of marijuana in the trunk, Connelly said. Salinas eventually admitted the marijuana was his.

Police also seized $370 that Salinas had, Connelly said.
