Police said they were called to the Food Bag store at 1058 Hope St. at 7 p.m. by a store clerk after a woman ran in and asked him to call the police.
The 40-year-old woman told police she had been in an on-again, off-again seven-year relationship with Kasiem Hardy of Hope Street. She had left her residence and when he followed her she pushed him into a snowbank, police said. She said he pulled out a folding knife and made slashing motions at her, eventually cutting her left little finger, police said.
Hardy was located at the corner of Fahey and Hope streets, and a 7-inch knife, with a 3-inch blade with blood on it was found inside his pocket, police said.
He was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon.
His bond was set at $5,000. He was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Thursday.
