Stamford Man Charged With Possession Of Explosives, Fireworks

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was arrested after officers found he had illegal and legal fireworks, hand grenades and other explosive devices in his possession, police said.

Police searched the home of Jerome Kijek, 68, and found two improvised hand grenades, four explosive devices, one trailer filled with illegal fireworks, one trailer filled with legal fireworks illegally stored in a residential neighborhood, and $63,844 in U.S. currency, a statement from the police department said.

The investigation began about a month ago after the police department received complaints about storing and selling fireworks in the neighborhood, the statement said. Police executed the search after getting a warrant.

Kijek was charged with six counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, six counts of illegal possession of explosives, and illegal possession of fireworks, the release said. He was released on a promise to appear.
