Stamford Man Charged In
Car-Punching Incident

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of punching out the back windows of a vehicle whose driver was yelling at his wife, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

The incident started when the suspect’s wife’s car stalled at the intersection of Cove Road and Dale Street, and the driver behind her in a pick-up truck started yelling and beeping his horn, Shawinsky said. Alden Haughton was accused of jumping into the back of the pickup truck and punching out the rear windows of the truck, and then fleeing, Shawinsky said.

According to Shawinsky, the woman had put her hazard lights on when the vehicle stalled.

The woman’s car started again and she drove to police headquarters, with the man driving the pick-up truck following her, and the two reported the incident, Shawinsky said. Haughton arrived later to tell police his side, and was arrested, he said.

Haughton was charged with second-degree breach of peace, and third-degree criminal mischief, police said. He was released on a promise to appear.
