Police stopped Alan Muntner on High Ridge Road by the entrance ramp to the Merritt Parkway after receiving a report he had threatened a man, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

Officers found a Smith and Wesson M&P15 .223-caliber rifle, a Golani .223-caliber rifle, two high-capacity magazines -- one with 15 rounds and one with 29 rounds -- and a KA-BAR knife with a 6-inch blade, all accessible to the driver, Shawinsky said, calling the cache of weapons "pretty serious."

Officers began looking for Muntner after receiving a report that he had threatened a man with a knife and fled in a black Chevrolet pickup truck, Shawinsky said. Police were able to find the vehicle by matching its license plate, he said.

According to the victim, the suspect went to his home to complain about the victim’s ex-girlfriend, who is now with Muntner, and he took out a knife and threatened him as the argument became heated, Shawinsky said. The victim followed the suspect to his vehicle, where Muntner threatened him again and grabbed a rifle barrel and showed it to the victim, the sergeant said.

Muntner, 27, was charged with having a loaded gun in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening, Shawinsky said.

He posted $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 22.

The weapons were being assessed by the Stamford Police Department for other possible charges, Shawinsky said.
