STAMFORD, Conn. - A 54-year-old Stamford man was arrested on a warrant early Thursday in connection with a pair of burglaries in the city, and officers were combing through evidence to see whether he is possibly responsible for more, police said.

Charles “Charlie Boy” Hill, of Woodland Place, was charged with burglary and larceny in connection with recent break-ins on Cloverhill Drive and Midland Avenue, police said.

In both crimes, a window screen was cut to gain entry and the home ransacked. Laptops, jewelry, cash and watches were stolen from the homes, according to Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn.

Sgt. Andy Gallagher and Officer Cory Casserta canvassed the scenes of the break-ins, and Casserta obtained numerous fingerprints that led to Hill, who Hohn called a “career burglar” with 27 previous arrests.

Police obtained warrants for the two burglaries on Wednesday and early Thursday. Officers Heather Bozentko and Rich Vetter spotted Hill riding a bicycle in the South End of Stamford. After a brief chase, they tackled him and arrested him, police said.

“We’ve been getting hit with a bunch of burglaries over the past few weeks,” said Hohn. “We believe he’s committed several others, so hopefully more charges will be filed.”

In addition to the second-degree burglary and fourth- and sixth-degree larceny charges, Hill also had a screwdriver in his possession at the time of the arrest and was also charged with possession of burglary tools.

He was held on $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Thursday.
