Stamford Man Arrested With Meat Cleaver, Meth At Train Station

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was charged in Stamford after officer found meat cleaver and methamphetamines in his possession near the train station, police said.

Patrol officers saw James Keitt, 23, walking by cars near the train station, looking inside, Sgt. Sean McGowan said. Keitt ran from officers when they tried to talk to him, McGowan said. During a search of his backpack, officers found a meat cleaver, a flashlight, and a plastic bag with four pills, two of which had a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamines, the sergeant said.

Break-ins have been reported near the train station, which made the officers suspicious, McGowan said. When asked why he ran, Keitt said he had a knife, the sergeant said.

The incident took place at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Keitt was charged with possession of a hallucinogen, possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, carrying a dangerous weapon, interfering with an officer/resisting and refusing fingerprinting, police said. He was held on $75,000 bond and was taken to court for arraignment Wednesday, police said.
