Fredy Chacon, 33, of 47 William St., Stamford, is facing one count of third-degree larceny.

Police said Chacon opened an account at a People's Bank branch in Stamford in 2011.

He then opened a second account at a People's Bank branch in Winsted - but with a slightly different name and a different date of birth, said Sgt. Kelly Connelly.

He deposited money into his Stamford account and later moved that money over to his Winsted account, Connelly said. However, he claimed that someone had defrauded him by taking money out of his Stamford account, police said.

A bank investigator called police last year to report the fraud. Chacon turned himself in to Stamford police on the weekend. His court date and bond amount were not released.
