The family was home when the fire began but was able to safely escape. Crews battle the blaze for 90 minutes but were slowed by frigid temperatures and very icy conditions, the Stamford Advocate reported.

Long Ridge, Turn of River and city fire departments all responded to the initial call. New Canaan and Banksville also helped provide water, the Stamford Advocate said.
