Stamford Government Center Evacuated for Fire

STAMFORD, Conn. — A fire in a transformer room forced the evacuation of the Stamford Government Center Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Fire Chief Tim Conroy said the fire was not related to the heat and that no injuries were reported.

Conroy said four engines, a rescue truck and 22 firefighters responded to the scene. Connecticut Light & Power shut off electricity to the transformer area and the fire was allowed to burn itself out, the deputy chief said. The alarm sounded at 3:50 p.m. Police and Stamford EMS assisted with the evacuation.
