Stamford Government Center Closed Thursday

Update, 3:45 p.m.: STAMFORD, Conn. — The Stamford Government Center is closed Thursday because the facility is still experiencing power troubles after a transformer vault caught fire.

The parking lot will be closed to Alive @ Five concert goers because of the power outages, a release from the Mayor's Office said.

Connecticut Light & Power has been working non-stop to replace the transformer, and restore power, the release said. Power is expected to return sometime Thursday evening, the release said.

All essential and emergency services, including the Citizen’s Service Center will be open Thursday. All meetings and other events scheduled for Thursday are canceled and will be rescheduled, the Mayor's Office says.

Citizens looking or a cooling center can go to any city fire house and may open up if needed, the release said. People can go to the mall or any of the libraries to get out of the heat as well, the release said.
