STAMFORD, Conn. -- More than a dozen members of the Stamford Fire Department attended a class held by TAC MED to learn from paramedics, emergency room doctors and trained first responders how to react to active shooter emergencies.

“In this modern era, our firefighters must be trained to respond to more than just fires," Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association President Brendan Keatley said in a statement. "It is critical we enhance our training so that our members are prepared to act and protect lives in all circumstances.”

Stamford firefighters spent the morning in a classroom setting followed by drills in the afternoon.

The event took place at University of Connecticut Stamford campus at Washington Boulevard and Broad Street.
