Officers were called to a Cove Road apartment at about 10:30 p.m. Friday after a concerned woman contacted them to say her friend texted her, saying she had been assaulted by her boyfriend earlier that evening, police said. The woman said she was fearful and was experiencing some pain, police said. She also texted her friend a photograph of her black eyes, police said.
Officers went to the apartment and were told by the man that his girlfriend had tripped and hit her head on a table a couple of days earlier, police said.
The woman said she suffered the black eyes while playing volleyball and was uncooperative with officers, including refusing to provide more information or to have photographs taken of her black eyes, police said.
The woman also refused the assistance of paramedics and declined to go to the hospital, police said.
Despite her lack of cooperation, police charged Daniel Gonzalez, 39, of 69 Cove Road, Apt. B18, with second-degree assault.
He was held on $250,000 bond and appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford on Monday.
Police said Gonzalez is also on parole.
