George Vukel, 34, of 230 Strawberry Hill, is charged with third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. His brother, John Vukel, 41, of 4 Austin Ave., is charged with second-degree assault.

Geroge Vukel was at John Vukel's home with a 30-year-old female friend. Both brothers were drinking and an argument arose over George's alleged driving while he was drinking, police said.

Angered by this, George Vukel grabbed and tussled with his brother, police said. George Vukel left the residence but returned shortly, police Sgt. Kelly Connelly said, and this time he was armed with a fire extinguisher.

"About 10 minutes later, John opened the door and he got sprayed with the fire extinguisher," she said.

John Vukel was covered with the fire extinguisher's contents, which also spread to the interior of his residence, police said.

The two resumed their brawl, this time each using the fire extinguisher on each other, police said.

"They were hitting each other with the fire extinguisher, but George's injuries are far worse. He got beat up pretty bad," Connelly said. George Vukel suffered a broken nose along with bruises, she said. John Vukel escaped with less injuries, she said.

John Vukel appeared in court Thursday. But due to his injuries, George Vukel's court appearance was delayed until Friday.
