Rowayton Mom Left Baby In Car While She Shopped At Mall, Stamford Cops Say

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Rowayton woman left her 7-month-old sleeping baby girl in her locked Mercedes Benz E350 car while she shopped at the Stamford Town Center on Thursday evening, police said.

Mall security called police at 8 p.m. after a passerby noticed the infant alone in the vehicle and no one around, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

Security was able to pry open a car door and were holding the sweaty and crying baby when officers arrived, police said. The woman returned to her car at 8:20 p.m. to see security and police with her baby, police said.

She told police she had been inside for only 10 minutes and hadn't wanted to wake the baby. She was told that mall security and police had been on the scene for about 20 minutes without any sign of her, police said.

The child was taken to Stamford Hospital for observation and released to her mother.

Denise Corcoran, 42, of 198 Rowayton Ave., Norwalk, was issued a misdemeanor summons on a charge of leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. The state Department of Children and Families was notified, Hohn said.
