Ridgefield Teen Charged With Stealing Truck After Hit-And-Run In Wilton

WILTON, Conn. — A 17-year-old boy was Ridgefield was arrested after stealing a landscaper's truck, crashing it and leading officers in a pursuit, Wilton police said.

Andy Stewart Landscaping Design reported a truck had been stolen from the business at 951 Danbury Road at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 16, police said. 

A motor vehicle crash was reported shortly thereafter, with one vehicle leaving the scene, police said. 

An officer then spotted the stolen truck — with damage consistent with the recent crash — in the area, police said. 

The driver refused to stop and officers began to pursue the truck, police said. 

Officers deployed spike strips to stop the stolen truck, police said. 

The juvenile suspect also damaged other items in the truck storage area and entered other vehicles, police said.

He was charged with first-degree larceny, five counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of criminal mischief, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility, reckless driving, driving without a license, and failure to grant right of way at a private driveway.

The juvenile was released to his parents on a promise to appear in court.
