Officers were responding to call about a woman being attacked in a room, police said.

A woman had a front upper tooth pushed up into her gum, a bloody mouth, swollen lips, large bruises on both of her upper arms, a bruise on her upper left chest area and difficulty enunciating her words, police said.

After investigating the scene, however, officers arrested her boyfriend, Kaysohn Baker, 24, of 253-36 87th Drive, Queens, N.Y., police said. Baker was charged with second-degree assault of a pregnant woman, disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer, police said.

Officers had been called by the desk clerk at America's Best Value Inn at 1209 E. Main St., around 5 a.m. after a guest reported hearing a woman being attacked in a room, police said.

The desk clerk had to let the officers into the room after there was no answer when they knocked, police said.

Upon entering the room, officers noticed blood on the bed, police said. They were met by Baker, who said he had just come out of the shower and the blood was his from a bloody nose, police said.

He denied that an assault had occurred in the room, police said.

The woman was in the shower, and officers questioned her after she came out, police said.

Despite the severity of her injuries, she continued to maintain they were suffered in an accident, police said.

"She kept saying she fell in the bathroom," Sgt. Kelly Connelly said. She also said she was two months pregnant with their child, Connelly said.

Officers didn't buy the stories and arrested Baker, police said.

His bond was set at $50,000, and he was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Wednesday.
