STAMFORD, Conn. -- A hair-pulling, shoe-hitting road rage dispute between two women in Stamford on Wednesday led to the arrest of one on a charge of second-degree breach of peace, police said.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Long Ridge Road business at about 9:30 a.m. when an angry Elizabeth Carpenter confronted the other driver, a 53-year-old woman, police said. Carpenter pulled the other woman's hair as she yelled at her, saying she had almost struck Carpenter by making a wide right turn on Hoover Street, police said.

The 53-year-old woman pulled off a shoe and used it to defend herself during the attack by striking Carpenter, police said. The victim recorded Carpenter's license plate and called police. She also denied making a wide turn and instead said the two drivers had passed one another in opposite directions on Hoover Street, police said.

When officers arrived at her residence, Carpenter said she had used bad judgement in following the complainant to her place of employment, police said. But Carpenter said the woman had taken a wide turn and nearly struck her Volkswagen, police said.

Carpenter, 49, of 59 Old Barn, was issued a summons to appear in state Superior Court of Stamford.

The style of shoe was not mentioned in the police report.
