Ricardo Sambrano, 23, of 319 Greenwich Ave., Stamford, who identifies as a woman and gave police the name of Elisa, was charged with second-degree assault, police said.

The incident began when officers were called to 319 Greenwich Ave. at 12:30 a.m. after a report of a fight, police said.

"When they arrived they were met by a large group of men, women and several men dressed as women," Sgt. Kelly Connelly said.

A 25-year-old woman had suffered facial injuries after she was hit in the face with a beer bottle by Sambrano, police said. Sambrano admitted he had hit her, but said she had hit him first after an argument erupted over her gender-related insults toward him, Connelly said.

"(Sambrano) said he began to be disrespected by the (25-year-old woman) about being a man dressed as a woman," Connelly said.

A man then kicked Sambrano in the shoulder, a kick so hard that it left a shoeprint visible to officers when they arrived, police said. Others reported minor injuries due to the fights, but they weren't able to help police.

"Everybody was completed intoxicated, and they don't know who hit whom," Connelly said.

Sambrano's bond was set at $1,000, and police are continuing the investigation.
