Police: Stamford Man Suspected Of Tying Up Mother

STAMFORD, Conn. - A homeless man was arrested Monday night, suspected of tying up his mother and robbing her Stamford apartment, police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

According to Hohn, this is what took place: Todd Blackman, 45, tied his mother to her bed with her panties and other clothes, then took about $320 of cash from her purse and continued to ransack the rest of the apartment.

The victim, 72, was able to free one of her hands and call police while the suspect was still there, Hohn said. Arresting officers found Blackman at the apartment with the cash, and the victim with restraints around her arms, legs, and neck, Hohn said. The woman did not report any injuries, but was shaken, he said.

Blackman was charged with home invasion, third-degree robbery, third-degree assault of a victim over 60, and second-degree unlawful restraint, police said. He was held on a $75,000 bond and appeared in court Tuesday, Hohn said.

The suspect was also recently charged in a shoplifting incident at Target and released on a promise to appear, Hohn said.
