Stamford Man Accused Of Holding Ex Against Her Will

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was charged Thursday with keeping his ex-girlfriend trapped in his apartment, Sgt. Rob Barbagallo said.

Anthony Avery was arrested when he appeared in court for a civil matter, Barbagallo said. He was charged with felony risk of injury to a child, three counts of felony unlawful restraint, three counts of misdemeanor third-degree assault, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, police said.

The ex went to Avery’s house to pick up their baby, and he allegedly pushed her into the bathroom and hit her in the face several times, Barbagallo said. Police said the woman had several bruises on her forehead and cheek.

She was able to escape when Avery's mother distracted him, Barbagallo said. The mother, who lives on the first floor, went to her son's second-floor residence when the ex's mother called worried that something bad was happening, Barbagallo said.

The woman's mother had driven her to Avery's home to pick up the baby and became concerned when her daughter did not answer her cell phone, Barbagallo said. Avery had taken the phone to see whom his ex was calling, Barbagallo said.

Police did not report any injuries to the baby.
