Police: Stamford Man, 85, Hit Wife In Head With Ax In Dispute Over Food

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Angry over a meal his wife prepared for him, an 85-year-old Stamford man fractured his wife's skull with an axe Saturday night, police said.

Selvin Hazel, 85, of Stamford was  charged with first-degree assault and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $100,000.

At about 11 p.m., the 46-year-old woman prepared food for her husband, Selvin Hazel, of Quintard Terrace. The man balked at the food and his mood turned to a rage as he grabbed an ax from the closet and hit her in the head with it, police said.

The woman suffered a fractured skull and a cut to her scalp, police said. The woman went to the emergency room on her own, and police were contacted by medical authorities, police said.

Hazel was arrested without incident, police said. He was charged with first-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was held on $100,000 bond.
