Police: Stamford Liquor Stores Busted For Selling To Minors

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford police busted three people during a sting operation to find local liquor stores that sell alcohol to minors on Monday, police said.

In each instance, a 19-year-old man entered a store and attempted to buy beer, Capt. Richard Conklin said. The teen did so successfully at Shippan Liquors, One Stop Variety and La Placita Market, Conklin said.

“It’s nothing too tricky,” he said, explaining that the shops either do not check the teenager’s identification or look at his real identification and sell it anyway.

The operation was conducted at six separate locations throughout the city, and three complied with the law, Conklin said. Stamford Police hold this type of operation about four times a year, picking out locations based on complaints from the community and previous violations, he said.

The three suspects were charged with illegal sale of liquor to a minor and released on promises to appear in court Aug. 2, the captain said. They also may face sanctions from the state liquor commission as well, he said.
