Police Investigates Similar Burglaries In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford officers were investigating two similar burglaries that occurred late Monday and early Tuesday, police said.

The first was reported at 10:30 p.m. at Madame Cece’s Green Cleaners on Long Ridge Road, where $300 in cash was taken from the register, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said. The store was closed at the time, and access was gained by prying open the door, he said.

The second was reported just before 3 a.m. Tuesday at Town Fair Tire on High Ridge Road, where $1,700 was taken from the safe, Hohn said. It appears the perpetrators were hiding in the store or went back after setting off the alarm, police said. Officers checked the location when the alarm went off and then later Tuesday morning when scratch marks from moving the safe could be seen, the lieutenant said.

The safe weighs an estimated 100 pounds, Hohn said.

The lieutenant believes the two cases may be connected because of the similar ways the doors were jimmied open.
