Melvin Palmer, 54, of 57 Bonner St., Stamford, is charged with third-degree larceny.

The theft occurred in November, according to the owner of a Greenwich Avenue used car dealership. He and his wife told police that they suspected an employee had stolen money from them, police said.

The money had been stored in a desk and the owner's wife noticed that $1,500 was missing on Nov. 11, Sgt. Kelly Connelly said. The following day, another $3,500 was missing, Connelly said.

The couple reviewed surveillance video and saw that an employee had twice entered the desk and taken the money from her purse, police said.

Officers investigated and issued a warrant for Bonner's arrest, police said. He turned himself in to police on Wednesday.

There was no information on a court date or a bond amount.
