Tyrone Elliot, 40, of 597 Pacific St., was charged with one count each of third-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with two counts each of third-degree assault and breach of peace.

A 46-year-old man was walking out of a grocery store near Woodland Place and Pacific Street at about 10:15 p.m. when he was confronted by a black man wearing a blond wig who began to harass him and punched him twice in the face, police said.

The attacker then grabbed the man's wallet from his pocket, police said. Just then, about $1,000 in cash that the victim was carrying fluttered to the street, police said.

In the commotion, the attacker grabbed two $100 bills, police said. A group of people nearby also ran over and snatched as much money as they could from the street, police said.

A 17-year-old man attempted to intervene and help the victim, police said. But he was bit on a shoulder and scratched on the chest by the attacker, who walked away on Pacific Street, police said.

The victim flagged down a passing police officer, who quickly arrested Elliot, police said.

His bond was set at $25,000. Elliot was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Friday.
