The incident began around 6:45 p.m. Monday when Troop A was notified by the Bridgeport and Newtown police departments that they were in pursuit of a 2014 white Honda Accord that was wanted for transporting firearms, state police said.
The chase went through Bridgeport, Trumbull, Monroe, and Newtown before officers lost sight of the vehicle in Brookfield, officials said.
State police spotted the vehicle near Exit 14, and the driver engaged the troopers in another pursuit around Exit 17 until it entered route 8 south in the city of Waterbury where they lost sight of the vehicle, state police said.
Shortly after the chase ended the vehicle crashed on Charles Street after going off the west side of the road, struck a retaining wall, fence, and curb and continued south across Porter Street where it continued to ride along the sidewalk and curbing of a parking lot adjacent to Charles Street.
All of the occupants fled the vehicle following the crash, state police said.
Two occupants were located in the area by state police, Waterbury police, and a state K-9 Officer.
The third suspect, 22-year-old Kenneth Jones of Waterbury, ran to a neighboring home to evade police, kicked in the door and while people were in the house, attempted to hide inside, said Trooper Kelly Grant.
Police were alerted to his presence after a time and he was quickly taken into custody, Grant said.
A loaded pistol with a 50-round drum magazine was located inside the vehicle.
Jones was charged with home invasion, criminal mischief, burglary, breach of peace, criminal trespass, engaging in a pursuit, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of a pistol without a permit, possession of a high-capacity magazine, driving without a license, and a host of other charges.
A 17-year-old juvenile was also charged in the case, state police said.
Jones is being held on $250,000 bond.
