Police Arrest Two With Heroin In Car

STAMFORD, Conn. — Two Stamford men were charged with possession of narcotics after police found heroin in their car Wednesday, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

There were 6.3 grams of heroin, which has a street value of $340, and six hypodermic needles in the car, Shawinsky said. Police were searching the vehicle because the two men did not have driver’s licenses and it had to be towed, the sergeant said.

Patrol officers stopped the car near the intersection of Stillwater Avenue and Spruce Street in Stamford because the driver, Shawn Cackowski, has a suspended license, Shawinsky said.

Cackowski, 41, told police about the needles in the vehicle, but neither he nor Victor Ranero, 41, who was the passenger, said who had the heroin, the sergeant said.

Ranero was charged with possession of narcotics, conspiracy to commit possession of narcotics, sale of certain illegal drugs, conspiracy to commit possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to commit possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Cackowski was charged with possession of narcotics, conspiracy to commit possession of narcotics, sale of certain illegal drugs, conspiracy to commit possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, police said.
