Pedestrian Seriously Hurt In Hit-And-Run; Stamford Police Seek Driver

Stamford Police are looking for the driver who fled a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of West Main Street and Richmond Hill Avenue that sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries early Sunday morning.

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Police are seeking help from the public in finding a hit-and-run driver involved in an accident at 2:40 a.m. Sunday that left a man seriously injured.

The accident occurred on West Main Street (Route 1) at Richmond Hill Avenue. A man police have tentatively identified as Gilberto Monroy was attempting to cross West Main Street from south to north when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle, police said.

The driver fled the scene, and police said they believe the car has windshield, headlight and moulding or drill damage.

Officers are analyzing evidence left at the scene to help in the investigation, police said.

The driver or anyone with information concerning this vehicle or a vehicle with damage consistent with the vehicle in the crash is asked to contact police at 203-977-4712.

Stamford Police are also requesting the public’s assistance in locating family or friends of Monroy.

The investigation is being conducted by Officer Jeffrey Booth and Sgt. Andrew Gallagher.
