One Man Dead After Altercation On Route 25/8 Ramp In Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- One man has died after two drivers got into a fight late Thursday night following a car crash on Route 25/8 in Bridgeport, Connecticut State Police said in a statement.

At about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, a 911 caller said two people were outside their vehicles on the Route 25/8, southbound Exit 5 off-ramp and were "walking toward each other in an aggressive manner," according to the statement from State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance.

Immediately after this 911 call, State Police troopers received another 911 call from one of the people involved in the incident, Vance said.

This caller said he was "actively involved in an altercation" with another male and requested State Police help. A scuffle was overheard, and the 911 call was then disconnected, Vance said.

The male called State Police 911 back and said he had moved a short distance away to Lindley Avenue and Capitol Avenue in Bridgeport, state police said.

Bridgeport Police Officers and State Troopers responded to that location and secured the victim and his vehicle.

Troopers also went to the scene of the altercation on the off-ramp, where a severely injured male was found, Vance said. Troopers provided emergency care at the scene, and the man was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after admission.

The State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives is continuing the investigation, securing both physical and forensic evidence at the scene and interviewing witnesses. The Office of the Chief State's Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

The exit ramp was closed Friday morning for the state police investigation.

State Police did not release the names of the men involved to notify the next of kin.

State Police are asking anyone who may have driven past this scene or who saw anything before or during this incident to contact State Police at 203 696-2500. All calls received will be kept in strict confidence.
