Police had pulled over 22-year-old Joseph Caceres on Commerce Street at around 8:30 p.m. on a motor vehicle violation when they noticed what appeared to be marijuana flakes, the Hour reported. When they asked him about it, he said he didn't have any, but appeared nervous, police told the Hour. He was asked to step out of the car, but instead drove away, almost hitting the officer, according to the Hour.

He ran a red light and drove away, and when police searched for him they found his abandoned car on Morgan Avenue, according to the Hour. He later walked into police headquarters to turn himself in, the Hour reported.

Caceres said that he had fled because he did in fact have marijuana in his car, police told the Hour. He was arrested on a number of charges including interference with a search, failure to bring a motor vehicle to a full stop, engaging in pursuit, disobeying an officer's signal, failure to obey a signal, interfering with an officer, improper signal for a turn, illegal tint, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana
