STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Good Samaritan tackled a man who had grabbed a piece of loose concrete and was planning to hit his girlfriend with it late Monday night, Stamford Police said.

Jonathan Rosario, 31, of Bridgeport was charged with one count each of attempted first-degree assault, third-degree assault, breach of peace and refusing to be fingerprinted.

Police said a dispute erupted between Rosario and his 34-year-old Stamford girlfriend about her comments on his excessive drinking of alcohol when they were at the Brickhouse Bar and Grill on Bedford Street.

They left the establishment but continuing arguing, police said. He grabbed her cellphone and tossed it into the sewer, police said.

As she fled to Latham Park across the street, the 5-foot-7 Rosario grabbed a loose piece of concrete to hit her, police said. But he was tackled a 25-year-old six-foot-tall Norwalk man before he could strike the woman, police said.

When police arrived, the Norwalk man had Rosario under control, Sgt. Chris Weed said.
