Firefighters responded to the blaze at 76 Highland Road at about 5:20 p.m. Upon arrival, a shed was found burning at the rear of the two-family house.

All of the occupants had left the building before the fire department arrived, officials said.

The fire also extended to the siding on the house, officials said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze. Its cause is being investigated by the fire marshal’s office.

Firefighters also discovered there were no working smoke detectors in the home. They installed them before leaving the scene at 6 p.m., officials said.
