Shelton officers charged Bryce Laister, who had been living on Pleasantvilew Avenue in Stratford for several months, with first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and second-degree breach of peace, police said.

He was held on $500,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court Friday.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Stratford and Shelton police officers and detectives converged on the Stratford home at 6 a.m., finding Laister in an upstairs room, police said.

When they entered the room, Laister pulled out a handgun, beginning a two-hour standoff with the officers, who were able to negotiate a peaceful surrender, police said.

He was taken into custody by Stratford police and later charged in the May 30 armed robbery at the Stop & Shop People’s Bank in Shelton.

At 12:30 p.m. that day, Shelton police received a holdup alarm from the Bridgeport Avenue bank, followed by a 911 call.

Bank employees told police a man with a scruffy beard and dirty blonde hair approached a female teller, showed a semi-automatic pistol and demanded cash.

The teller complied and the man left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Laister had four outstanding arrest warrants in Connecticut and another three out of state, police said.

Laister also faces a number of charges related to the Thursday standoff, Stratford police said. In that incident, he was charged with breach of peace, interfering with police, first-degree threatening, criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and having a pistol without a permit.

He is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Court on June 27 on the charges.

Laister was turned over to Shelton officers after booking.
