Updated: WESTON, Conn. -- Weston Police assisted in the arrest of a man wanted in Maryland on multiple charges, including attempted murder, according to the Prince George’s County Sheriff.
Jairo Gutierrez-Lopez, 26, was working as a painter at a home on Woods End Lane in Weston when police arrested him, according to a statement on the Maryland sheriff's website. A warrant for his arrest on the attempted murder charges, along with several other counts, was issued July 5.
Authorities were able to track Gutierez-Lopez of Beltsville, Md., to Connecticut through his cellphone. Pings from the suspect's phone allowed authorities to pinpoint him in Weston.
According to the warrant, Gutierrez-Lopez assaulted a female victim at a home in Beltsville. She was stabbed several times in the upper and lower body as she attempted to break up a physical altercation between the suspect and another female victim, before he fled, the warrant said.
On July 6, after receiving the warrant, the deputies from the sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Surveillance Team began investigating. A confidential informant came forward with information that the suspect was in Stamford.
With assistance from the Weston Police Department and the Stamford Police Department, FAST deputies located Gutierrez-Lopez at a home in Weston, where he was found painting in an upstairs bedroom.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a Weston Police Station. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and dangerous weapon with the intent to injure.
He is awaiting extradition back to Prince George's County.
