James Cunningham had been arrested last November in connection with the murder of Marian Alexander, 52, of Norwalk. Alexander was found dead inside her Arch Street home on June 17, 2016, and police determined that she had been strangled to death.
After an investigation, police identified Cunningham as a suspect in the case, and he was arrested on charges of murder and second-degree larceny.

Cunningham pleaded guilty to the crime in October, but did not provide any explanation for why he broke into Alexander's home and killed her, according to the Hour. His DNA was found at the scene, and his girlfriend reported the day before that he had held a knife to her throat, the Hour reported.
Cunningham was sentenced while appearing in court in Stamford on Monday, but did not speak or look at Alexander's family, according to the Hour.
