Man Murdered In Stamford Laundromat

This story was updated at 12:30 p.m.

STAMFORD, Conn. — A man was killed late Monday or early Tuesday at Uncle Buck’s Laundromat at 5 Fairfield Ave., police said.

The victim died of blunt force trauma, police said. The murder took place at Uncle's Laundromat sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday after the laundromat had closed.

Police were called to the laundromat around 1:20 a.m. and found the victim, who has been identified as James Decrescenzo, 50, of Stamford, unconscious on the ground, according to police. He was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police didn't know if the victim knew his killer or if his assailant had broken into the laundromat, but the initial investigation shows that the incident was a robbery or burglary to the business and Decrescenzo, police said.

Officers had the laundromat sealed off and a crime scene investigation truck and crew were on hand. Residents of the neighborhood were crying and asking how a homicide could take place on their street.

The victim’s body has been sent to the state’s medical examiner and an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday, police said.
