Richard Segabiro, 31, called police around 10 p.m. Monday and reported he had stabbed his 16-year-old-niece, Francine Nyanzaninka, whom he had raised as a daughter, said Av Harris, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

When police arrived at the apartment house on Fairfield Avenue near Hansen Avenue in Black Rock, they found Segabiro covered in blood and his niece dead in the bathroom of the apartment, Harris said.

"She appeared to have been stabbed multiple times," Harris said.

Also in the home at the time of the homicide were Segabiro's wife and three young children, who were unharmed, he added.

Segabiro was arrested and later confessed to the stabbing. He was charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond, Harris said.

Nyanzaninka's death is the city's third murder of the year.
